Region 9 Members Duties (Please scroll all the way to the bottom of this page)
Region Chairman: Linda Nicolosi
•    Select and get commitments from conductors to serve as clinicians for HS All-Region Orchestras
•       Make contact with clinicians to discuss issues or details for the clinic / concert.
•    Procure bios of the clinicians of the All-Region Orchestras and forward them to the Program chair.
•    Arrange transportation and lodging for HS Region Clinicians
•    Collect all applications and fees for TMEA Entries.
•    Communicate with HS Band Region Chair that orchestra auditions are set.
•    Procure wind personnel list after final auditions and forward to Program chair and organizers.
•    Prepare and provide a schedule of rehearsals for All-Region rehearsals and sectionals to the Region Chair, the ensemble organizers, the site hosts, and all of the directors in the region
•    Lead meetings, distribute and gather information, and mediate all discussions from Region Membership.
•    Assign committees and committee chairs to discuss issues important to the Region.
•    Determine UIL and TMEA dates with other Region Officers
•    Arrange sites for all TMEA and UIL activities.
•    Chair Audition Site Committee:  ensures that all audition sites meet the minimum expectations of hosting auditions including: room assignments on campus in respect to the instruments being auditioned in them, director’s lounge, tabulations, and reporting room
•    Oversees tabulations room and verifies audition before directors are given results.
•    Represents Region to State Chair
•    Prepares audition packets for Area auditions.
•    Makes all final decisions at Region/ Area Auditions.
High School Wind Coordinator: Todd Clearwater
•    Secures judges for HS Wind & Percussion Auditions
•    Runs meeting for HS Wind & Percussion Judges
•    Secures rehearsal clinicians for Wind / Percussion Sectional
•    Is responsible for decisions regarding Wind & Percussion personnel attendance & deportment at Section Rehearsal
•    Accepts audition contracts from directors
Junior High Coordinator: Cassandra Brosvik
•    Select and get commitments from conductors to serve as clinicians for JH All-Region Orchestras
•       Make contact with clinicians to discuss issues or details for the clinic / concert.
•    Procure bios of the clinicians of the All-Region Orchestras and forward them to the Program chair.
•    Arrange transportation and lodging for JH Region Clinicians
•    Prepare auditions packets for all directors to receive at each audition including copies of audition materials and requisite forms for all judges
•    Serve on Audition Site Committee
•    Assign directors to conduct All-Region sectional rehearsals.
•    Oversee that all activities are completed and report to the region chair.
•    Organize and oversee All-Region rehearsal procedures.
•    Stuff directors results packets at end of audition
•    Responsible for showing results of concluded auditions to judges currently serving on an audition panel and who are in the process of judging an audition
•    Responsible for running the monitors meetings at HS/ JH auditions
•    Responsible for running the registration desk and or distributing patches for Area and All-State Round recording
•    Represents Region 9  Orchestra for UIL Music Advisory Council at TODA, and reports to membership.
Treasurer: Peter Kempter
•    Handle all finances
•    Process and document all region fees.
•    Make bank deposits and keep checkbook.
•    Make the year-end report to TMEA.

Secretary: Drew DeJong
•    Keep minutes at all meetings and make copies for members.
•    Keep current membership list and distribute current directory.
•    Have membership labels available at all times.
Parlimentarian:  
•           Insure that meetings follow parliamentary procedures


Music Selection Committee:
•        Select etudes for junior high auditions
•        Select music performed by Junior High All-Region Orchestras (with input from clinicians when possible)
•        Chair will prepare master copy of the JH audition music  (cut and paste) to be given to the JH Coordinator
•        Chair will also provide a list of all performance selections to the Region Chair

Computer Chair: Keith Markuson
Tabulation Assistant:  
•    Chair must display computer literacy at all times and is responsible for guaranteeing the accuracy of all Region 9 Orchestra Division Auditions the first time in real time.
•    Chair must be fluent in the latest versions of Microsoft Office and Filemaker Pro applications in the case that information transferring between the two applications is quick and efficient and all forms/ results are generated in the timeliest manner.
•    Chair must return information to the Region Chair and the General Membership of Region 9 in the most expedited manner.
•    Must attend yearly training session at TMEA Headquarters in Austin, TX
•    Computes all forms, and receives information from Region Chair
•    E-mails general membership to verify their region/all state entries
•    Generates all forms including copies for monitors / judges sheets for each audition.
•    Oversees care and maintenance of Computers and other peripheral equipment owned by Region 9 Orchestra
•    Send data to  Frank Coachman at TMEA.
•    After final All-Region chair auditions, e-mail personnel list of chair order to Program Organizer and appropriate ensemble organizers.
•    Generates labels for Region Membership, Audition labels for students, and CD recordings.
Program Organizer: Carlos Lara
•    Obtain program order and bios of conductors from Concert Organizers.
•    Obtain personnel of each organization from the Computer Chair.
•    Recognize all directors in the region audition process.
•    Organize and assemble all information into program format for printing.
•    Have program printed and brought to the clinic / concert

Audition Judge Coordinator: Dawn Multop
•    Assemble list of judges for each audition
•    Handle getting substitutes when needed
•    Notify each judge of impending audition assignments
•    Sends Reminder notices for judging assignments and other duties for region membership

•    Make contact with Conductors. Speak with them periodically to discuss any issues or details they have regarding region weekend.
•    Collect original music and bring to each region audition, rehearsal, and performance.
•    Obtain BOWED copies of the string parts from the appropriate clinician.
•    Copy bowings into string parts from original score and make copies for concert folders.
•    Be sure clinicians and wind organizers have copies of scores to rehearse
•    Provide folders for your organization. Folders should be labeled and stuffed with appropriate parts, schedule (from Region Chair), and information sheets (from Site Host).
•    Make arrangements for any parts that are to be transposed or added, e.g. harp (ordered or written).
•    Distribute bowed parts to rehearsal directors at the sectional rehearsal.
•    Symphony organizers provide a list of needed percussion instruments to host schools ASAP.
•    Contact directors of student percussionists to remind them to bring their own mallets and small percussion (snare, sticks and mallets).
•    Arrive early to make sure rehearsal site is set up correctly.
•    Take roll and notify appropriate director of absences, and make announcements before and after each rehearsal. Communicate any absences to the Region     Chair.
•    Have students check program for correct spelling of name.
•       Distribute Region patches to students just prior to their performance at the Concert
•       Assist the conductor in all appropriate ways - be in rehearsal at all times
•    Confirm  arrangements for dining for the clinicians (coordinate with Region Chair.)
•    Assure a clean rehearsal area after each rehearsal and performance, including picking up leftover stands, name tags, etc.
•    Organize tear-down for rehearsal area after last rehearsal in that area.

•    Check roll at section rehearsal, and have students check the spelling of their names for the program
•      Conduct wind / percussion sectionals
•    Assign percussion parts to students
•    Oversee that there is correct percussion equipment at rehearsals

All-State Recording Coordinator:   Bryan Barrett
•    Obtain labels and CD's from the Region Chair
•    Assist Region Chair in organizing / alphabetizing All-State applications.
•    Make necessary corrections / additions to the applications.
•    Ask another director to assist with collecting fees and distributing Area patches at the taping site.
•    Assign Recording Room to students after collecting fees

All-State Recording Review Committee: Room Monitors: Janet Zielinski, Mamie Morlacci-Cook, Kirk Jones             
•    Bring a CD player and headphones to All-State auditions
•    Review CD’s immediately after recording – check for sound quality, that all material is present, and Region Code label is affixed.
    
Harp Organizer:
•    Responsible for creating harp parts for region orchestra.
•    Sets rehearsal schedule for region sectionals and clinic and allocating storage space for instrument and accessories (stool, case cover, etc.)
•    Contact person for parents of harp students (if necessary).

TMEA Site Hosts:
•    HS Region Auditions: Doerre Intermediate - Cathy Fishburn & Anu Mathai

•    Area Auditions and State Taping: College Park HS – Peter Kempter

•    Region Clinic/Concert: Klein Forest High School - Mamie Morlacci-Cook  / Laurie Arnold
•    Arrange building use, rooms, equipment necessary for audition. Custodians will be paid for by the Region if necessary. (Obtain an invoice for custodial fees.) Only $150.00 will be donated to each site host by the Region for any other necessary expenses.
•    Provide office space for computation.
•    Acquire labels from the Secretary for your own site mail-out (maps, final instructions, room assignments, etc.)
General Membership
•    Judge and / or monitor at every audition.
•    Attend all auditions and rehearsals
•    Assist with clean up when necessary.
•    Assist with students not displaying proper rehearsal demeanor.
•    Be a visible presence at all auditions and rehearsals. Set a good example for our students!!!
•    Be responsible for one or more of the above-mentioned duties!!!
